About the Club
Teign Village Sports and Social Club is located in the heart of the village and is the focal point for the majority of activities in the community. In the club there is a Skittle Alley, a bar and a pool table.
Founded in 1913 by quarry manager Robert Bathurst, the Sports and Social Club began as a retailer of boots and shoes. The building, once a typical terraced house, was later extended to cover the former front garden and gained a rear skittle alley in 1987.
The Social Club acts as a hub for the village hosting regular events. Monthly quizzes and theme nights draw locals and visitors alike and the club hosts successful skittles teams and a football team who play at the village pitch just uphill from the village. Each Saturday morning volunteers run the not-for-profit community shop which sells zero waste products, meat, bakery and confectionary, and offers delicious hot beverages and home made cake. Each year in June, the Summer Fair is organised which is held on the football pitch
During October, the Social Club organizes Teign Village Apple Day where apple products are sold and apple are pressed to make juice. Apple themed competitions are held
Raise the Roof
While this sounds like an idyllic existence, our beloved club building is feeling its age and needs a new roof. At the moment, we can see daylight from the first floor landing and when it rains, it pours. Literally.
From the quotes obtained, we know that this essential work will cost approximately £30,000 (as of March 2025) and we need your help to raise these funds.
